  • There are two main explanations for the name Xian Zhi (仙芝):

    1. Immortal Herb (Edible Meaning) – In classical Chinese, “Zhi” (芝) often referred to a rare and precious herb, sometimes associated with lingzhi (靈芝), the “mushroom of immortality.” Xian Zhi can thus be understood as “Immortal Herb” or “Fairy Plant,” symbolizing rarity, elegance, and vitality.

    2. Immortal Branch (Appearance Meaning) – The dry tea leaves are long and slightly curved, resembling the staff carried by Shou Xing, the God of Longevity in Chinese tradition. In this sense, Xian Zhi can be understood as “Immortal Branch,” connecting the tea to longevity, refinement, and cultural symbolism.

Both interpretations highlight the tea’s unique character and its connection to Chinese tradition and health symbolism.

  • Xian Zhi is produced through a highly selective process in Wuyuan, where only the finest tender leaves are chosen. Each step, from plucking to shaping, is done by hand under the guidance of master artisans. Its preservation through the Wuyuan Tea Academy not only protects the traditional method but also ensures continuity of quality and authenticity.

  • Xian Zhi has a delicate floral fragrance, reminiscent of orchids, with a smooth and refreshing taste. It carries a natural sweetness, leaving a long and elegant aftertaste, and a liquor that is bright, clear, and visually appealing.

Recommended Gongfu Brewing Method

Recommended Teaware for Xian Zhi:
Use a gaiwan or a glass teapot to best appreciate the long, elegant leaves and the clarity of the liquor. Yixing clay teapots are not recommended, as their porous nature may soften the delicate floral notes.

Water Temperature:
70–80 °C.

Brewing Instructions:

  • Leaf-to-water ratio: 1 g of tea per 50 ml of water (1:50).
For example, with a 150 ml gaiwan, use about 3 g of tea.

  • First infusion: Steep for about 50 seconds at 70–80 °C, then pour out completely.

  • Subsequent infusions: Increase steeping time by 5–10 seconds with each round.

This tea can be brewed at least 5 times, gradually revealing layers of orchid-like fragrance and natural sweetness.
