Teetao Tea House

Enjoy a little bit of China in the centre of Helsinki

Why name
Teetao?

The name Teetao(茶道)brings together several layers of meaning.

Tee means “tea(茶)” in Finnish, while Tao refers to the concept of “the Way(道)” in Chinese philosophy — Taoism(道教), which emphasises harmony, balance, and living in accordance with the natural flow of life.

At the same time, Teetao resonates with traditional Gongfu tea from the Chaoshan region of China. In the local Chaoshan (Teochew) dialect, the expression 𨑨迌 (tiag⁴ to⁵) refers to spending time leisurely or going out to enjoy oneself — an unhurried way of passing time. This sense of slowing down and tasting attentively lies at the heart of Gongfu tea and of Teetao itself.

“What a lovely find! Visited for afternoon tea and everything was greater than I could’ve imagined. The owners were extremely friendly and shared with us the background of every tea and dish that we were served. Everything tasted fantastic and was plentiful. The atmosphere was so peaceful and warm, we spent 2,5h there, but it felt like we’d just been there for an hour or so. Highly recommend visiting this teahouse!”

“It was an excellent experience with very reasonable prices! They have wide selection of Chinese and Taiwanese teas which are served in a traditional way. Deserts are also delicious and the service is 10 out of 10. There are also available lactose, gluten free, vegan, vegetarian options. The place looks to be owned by Asian family. The music and atmosphere is very calming and would be suitable for work or studies.”
