  • The name Longjing (Dragon Well) originally comes from a famous spring near Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, whose pure water was prized for tea. Another well-known story links the tea to Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty. During his visits to Hangzhou, he admired the tea bushes growing near Longjing Temple and praised their quality. The emperor’s favor made the tea famous at court, and over time the name Longjing became synonymous with this celebrated green tea.

  • Longjing is celebrated for its flat, jade-green leaves and distinctive pan-firing process that creates its signature nutty aroma and smooth taste. It is one of China’s most famous teas, treasured for centuries by emperors, poets, and tea lovers. Its combination of history, craftsmanship, and refined flavor makes it truly unique.

  • Longjing is smooth, mellow, and refreshing, with notes of roasted chestnut, fresh grass, and a hint of natural sweetness. The liquor is bright and clear, with a long, lingering aftertaste that balances nuttiness with freshness.

Recommended Gongfu Brewing Method

Recommended Teaware for Longjing:
Use a glass or porcelain gaiwan to appreciate the flat, jade-green leaves and their graceful movement during brewing. Yixing clay teapots are not recommended, as their porous nature may mute the tea’s fresh, nutty fragrance.

Water Temperature:
70–80 °C.

Brewing Instructions:

  • Leaf-to-water ratio: 1 g of tea per 50 ml of water (1:50).
For example, with a 150 ml gaiwan, use about 3 g of tea.

  • First infusion: Steep for about 50 seconds at 70–80 °C, then pour out completely.

  • Subsequent infusions: Increase steeping time by 5–10 seconds with each round.

This tea can be brewed at least 5 times, each infusion unveiling its creamy chestnut flavor and refreshing sweetness.
